UNCOMPROMISING ESD PROTECTION FOR YOUR PRODUCTION

ESD stands for electrostatic discharge and describes the electrostatic discharge that occurs when two differently charged objects come into contact. This is a natural phenomenon that everyone has probably experienced when touching a door handle or escalator handrail. This discharge is caused by friction and the separation of materials.

Good to know: Only at 3500 volts or higher can humans perceive this discharge as a “small electric shock.”

ESD PROTECTION IN AUTOMOTIVE MANUFACTURING

With advancing technological development, ESD protection is playing an increasingly important role, particularly in the automotive manufacturing sector. This is particularly true in the production of electric vehicles, which combine software-intensive vehicle architecture with highly complex technology and semiconductor components. This is because electronic and sensitive components are increasingly being used that can be affected by voltage pulses that are below the threshold of human perception. In the case of sensitive electronic components, voltages as low as 35 volts are often enough to cause damage. This is due to the increasing miniaturization of semiconductor components and the semiconductor structure widths in the component of 16 nanometers and smaller! It is not uncommon for electronic components to initially be damaged only by such minor discharges. This destabilization can have consequences that only become apparent later. This is precisely why the transport equipment used to transport sensitive components must meet the highest standards of ESD compliance. As our customer, you can be sure that our mobility solutions meet these requirements without compromise.

YOU CAN COUNT ON IT

Our ESD-compatible mobility solutions are designed to prevent electrostatic charges from occurring in the first place and to safely dissipate unavoidable charges. Voltage peaks are dissipated in a controlled manner and cannot discharge suddenly. Discharges can never be avoided 100 percent. However, thanks to ESD-compatible mobility solutions, you can rely on a high level of safety. An ESD-certified mobility solution from TENTE is therefore proof of effective protection.

CONDUCTIVE MOBILITY SOLUTIONS

Conductive mobility solutions offer medium ESD protection. Their electrical resistance is less than or equal to 10 kilo-ohms (104 ohms).


In the automotive industry, they are therefore suitable for transporting electronic components that are only slightly sensitive.


The DIN EN 12530 standard serves as the standard for testing conductive mobility solutions. Wheels that meet these requirements are identified by a mark in the form of a yellow dot or a yellow housing component—for example, a yellow cover cap or yellow clips.

CONDUCTIVE MOBILITY SOLUTIONS

Conductive mobility solutions offer ideal ESD protection for sensitive components. Their electrical resistance is between 10 kilo-ohms (104 ohms) and 1 giga-ohm (109 ohms).


Voltage spikes that could pose a risk to sensitive electronic components are controlled and dissipated by their own internal resistance. Wheels that meet these requirements are marked with the ESD protection symbol.They are recommended for the transport of sensitive electronic components within the ESD protection zone, which is referred to as EPA (electrostatic protected area).


The resistance limits for transport trolleys and mobility solutions are regulated by the DIN EN 61340-5-1:2017 Tab. 3 standard. This standard specifies strict requirements and test procedures that wheels must meet in order to be classified as “conductive.”

INSULATING MOBILITY SOLUTIONS

This category does not provide ESD protection and is not labeled. Wheels in this class are not suitable for transporting highly sensitive electronic equipment and are intended only for use in unprotected areas outside the EPA. 


These unprotected areas are indicated by the abbreviation UPA (unprotected area).
