Overhead Ionizers: Large-Area ESD Protection for EPA Zones
In many EPA areas, grounding alone isn't enough to reliably protect components from electrostatic charging – especially when non-conductive materials such as plastic housings, packaging or screens are involved. This is exactly where overhead-type ionizers come in: mounted above the workstation, they neutralize static charge across a wide area without needing direct contact with the component.
How Overhead Ionizers Help in Everyday Use
Using multiple fans, overhead ionizers distribute ionized air evenly across the entire work area – depending on the model, the ionization field ranges from around 60 x 120 cm up to significantly larger areas with up to five fans. A low offset voltage ensures positive and negative ions are released in a balanced way, while features such as an alarm relay, RS485 interface or remote control make monitoring and control easier in day-to-day production. For cleanroom use, specially certified ionizers with the appropriate cleanroom class are also available.
