Advantages of ESD gloves:
Dissipation of electrostatic charges:
They are made of special materials (e.g. with conductive fibres such as carbon or copper) that dissipate static charges via the glove and prevent electrical charges from discharging in an uncontrolled manner.
Protection of sensitive components:
Sensitive components such as microchips, printed circuit boards (PCBs) or semiconductors are protected from ESD-related damage, which often remains invisible but shortens the service life of the components.
Prevention of fingerprints and contamination:
In addition to protecting against electrostatic discharge, they prevent skin oils, dust or dirt from getting onto sensitive components, which is particularly important in clean rooms.
Supplement to ESD wristbands and mats:
In combination with other ESD measures, they help to form a complete protective circuit, as hands can also be a source of electrostatic charges.
Versatility depending on the area of application:
Coated ESD gloves (e.g. PU coating):
Offer additional grip and protect against mechanical damage.
ESD gloves made of nitrile:
Particularly suitable for clean rooms.
Standard-compliant protection:
They help to meet the requirements of international ESD standards such as IEC 61340-5-1, which is mandatory in many industries.
Important:
ESD gloves alone are not sufficient – they should always be part of a comprehensive ESD protection system (e.g. with ESD flooring, ESD clothing and ESD wrist straps).
Their effectiveness should be tested regularly (e.g. with an ESD tester).
