ESD protection in the workplace through secure EPA facilities
Electrostatic protected area (EPA)
In order to protect ESD-sensitive components from ESD damage, those responsible, usually trained ESD coordinators, must take special safety measures. These usually only apply in certain areas of production or assembly. There, the company must set up a special ESD protection zone, the “Electrostatic Protected Area” (EPA).
The EPA can be limited to individual ESD workstations, for example for repair or assembly, or it can encompass an entire electronics production facility. Regardless of size, ESD coordinators are well advised to implement a holistic workplace concept in this zone and to regularly check ESD safety.
